THE BECKER HIGH SCHOOL WINTER SPORTS PROGRAMS are just a week away from playing their first regular season games and meets now that all fall sports teams have concluded their seasons. Wrestling, dance, gymnastics and boys and girls basketball teams are working hard to get ready for their upcoming schedules.

Football Over, Winter Sports Teams Have Full Participants

With the final fall sports team concluding their season with a state championship, the winter sports teams are already in pre-season form as they continue to ready themselves for the start of the new seasons — hoping to duplicate what the football team just did.

The boys basketball team had half their varsity squad playing football up until last week and now the players such as Michael Veldman, Dawson Brown, Jake Fobbe, Andrew Stanger, Cody Gruenhagen and Blake Barthel will have but days to get ready for regular season games, starting Dec. 4 at Princeton.

The girls basketball team has a scrimmage this weekend at STMA, then start their regular season Dec. 4 at home against Delano.

The Dazzlers Dance team had two invitationals they cancelled but will participate in their first meet Dec. 6 at Detroit Lakes. Their first home meet is Jan. 8 against Cathedral, Zimmerman and Albany.

The gymnastics team is set to kick start their season Tuesday at home in their new facility against Princeton, then hold an eight-team invitational Sat., Dec. 6 at noon followed by another home meet against Maple Lake Dec. 11.

The wrestling team — also holding up their full varsity practices due to football — begin their regular season on the road at Mora, but wrestle in their first home meet Dec. 5 against Apollo.

The beginning of the winter sports season comes with a lot of hard work and preparation.

The time to set the tone for what lies ahead is now.
