Eagles Stop Little Falls, Moose Lake

The Becker-Big Lake varsity hockey Eagles had a great week. They beat Little Falls, 4-2, at home Tuesday and Thursday they  hosted Moose Lake in a conference match up, they  kept things rolling as they beat the Rebels 6-0.

“The Eagles did a good job staying out of the penalty box as they notched two goals each period, never letting Moose Lake gain any momentum. Zach Muller scored first with assists from Taylor Giving and Dana Slominski two minutes into the first period. Nick Stalpes scored at 8:11 with assists from Tristan Gust and Grant Vickerman.

In the second period, Elliot Darsow scored on a power play after 6:27 minutes. Zack Vieau scored at 12:57. Darsow scored again in the third at 3:53 with assists from Ethan Boutin and Vieau. Vieau scored his second goal of the game at 13:57 with an assist from Boutin.

Coach Doug Friedrichs admitted that he was a little worried coming off of a huge win against a really good team two nights before, hoping that the BBL boys would keep their heads and not be too high on themselves after beating Little Falls, Assistant Coach Scott Barta said.

“The Eagle boys made their new head coach proud as they kept the train rolling, picking up their third straight win,” Coach Barta said.

Goalie Ethan Huber picked up his first win of the season and the teams first shutout.

In Tuesday’s game against the Flyers, Little Falls scored first in the first period but Eagle Alex Green scored to tie the game up at 13.49. In the second period, Tristan Gust, assisted by Nick Stalpes and Grant Vickerman, scored twice, once at 1:35 and again at 16:33 to put the Eagles up by two.

In the third period, Dana Slominski scored at 2:50 with an assist by Stalpes. Although the Flyers came back to score again seconds later, they couldn’t catch the Eagles.

The Eagles had 25 shots on goal, Little Falls had 16. Goalie Ben Manzke took the win. The Eagles play Monticello Saturday to take on the Stars.

This week they compete in a three-day tournament at Richfield beginning Thursday. Their next home meet will be versus Windom Area Jan. 4. at 2 p.m.
The Eagles are now 4-4 in the Two Rivers Conference.

The JV team has also been playing well. They were undefeated until they lost to Little Falls, 2-1, this week.
