Seven girls from Becker Big Lake Hockey joined together for their second year in the, 'Between The Pipes,' 8U jamboree in St. Michael Albertville this past weekend. Last year BBL made history by having enough girls to field a hockey team for this tourney. This year the girls really made some noise though. The Eagles played in a 3 on 3, five team, round robin jamboree against some dedicated 8U teams. The girls played their hearts out having to skate every other shift against four teams nearly double the amount of skaters. The Eagles finished their weekend with a 2W-2L record. Way to go girls! Over the past three years there has been an explosion of girls in BBL that want to play hockey. Two years ago there were seven girls at the 8U level. Last year there were twelve. This season there are eighteen. These numbers coincide with BBL Hockey offering “Try Hockey Free” twice per season the past few years. Last summer BBL Hockey offered it's first Learn To Skate program and will be offering floor hockey this spring through Becker Community Ed. Also available to new and returning players is spring and fall Breakaway League which bookends the association hockey season.
