Eagles Plays At La Crescent Tournament

 
The Becker/Big Lake hockey team went 1-2 this past week.
 
Becker-Big Lake 3,  Faribault 2
 
Saturday, the Eagles played against Faribault. Eagles scored first. Faribault penalty led to Eagles power play goal by Tyler Schmitt assisted by Luke Ruppelius. 
 
The boys scored again before the first period ended—the goal was by Trenton Rupar with Assist to Tyler Schmitt. Eagles received two penalties and Faribault received one. During the second period, there was good hockey playing but no scoring, leaving the score at two to one. 
 
Faribault scored at the 16-minute mark to make the game two to one. Faribault then scored again to tie the game, two to two. Eagles scored Shorthanded on beautiful game winning goal by Corbin Kollar. Eagles kept it interesting, taking three penalties in the last five minutes. 
 
This also allowed a Faribault powerplay, five on three. But the Eagles prevailed, three to two. There were 29 saves by goalie Alec Anderson. 
 
“We needed this win big time,” said Coach Jason Hartfiel. “We have a good hockey team here but we have get our boys to play with more discipline.”
 
La Crescent 4, Becker-Big Lake 3 
 
Friday, the Eagles played against La Crescent. Eagles scored first with a powerplay goal by Tucker Rhodes, assisted by Ethan Orgon and Kellen Hurt. In the first period, there was one penalty issued for each team. 
 
During the second period, La Crescent scored a powerplay goal after too many men penalty by the Eagles. 
 
Later, the Eagles scored a short-handed goal by Kollar to make the score two to one. In the third period, the Eagles got a tripping penalty against Bahe which allowed La Crescent to make a powerplay goal. Eagles scored an even strength goal by Tyler Schmitt, with assists by Luke Ruppelius and Trenton Rupar. 3-2. 
 
The game went into overtime and La Crescent scored on a two-on-one to win. 
 
Goalie Alec Anderson made 31 saves in the loss.
 
Winona 5, Becker-Big Lake 4
 
Last week, the Eagles played against Winona in the first game of the La Crescent tournament. Kollar assisted Jacob Bahe in the Eagles’ first win. 
 
In the second period, Eagles gave up a goal to Winona. An Eagles roughing penalty by Bahe led to a Winona powerplay goal. 2-1. Then, a hooking by Rupar led to a third Winona goal. The Eagles gave up one more goal after two periods of play. 
 
In the third period, the Eagles fought back with goal by Ethan Tobako, assisted by Austin Rydberg. Finally, a holding penalty by Bahe allowed Winona to score again, making the score five to three. 
 
The team battled until the end. Tyler Schmitt made a goal, assisted by Tyler Ruppelius, and Trenton Rupar scored with 59 seconds left on the clock. Again, the assist was by Tyler Ruppelius. It was an interesting last minute but ended with an overall loss for the Eagles, five to four.
 
“Hockey team as whole is the best team we be had for since I’ve been assistant coaching. We have 18 players with at least a point. Two averaging over a point per game.
 
Goaltending has been good. The record for wins is thirteen which is well within reach for us. The Eagles just need to get disciplined and try and stay out penalty box. Looking forward to a strong second half of season,” said Coach Hartfiel.
