The Becker/Big Lake Hockey team split two games this week.
Eagles 3, Blades 2
Saturday, the Eagles traveled to North Dakota to play against the Breckenridge/Wahpeton Blades.
During the first period, the Eagles scored on a wrap-around, made by Trenton Rupar.
Breckenridge answered back with a goal of their own to tie the game.
There were two Eagle penalties in the first period with one coming at the end and extending into the second period — which the Eagles killed off.
However, BW scored an even strength goal to go up 2-1. The Blades received a couple of penalties, leading to the Eagles scoring on a powerplay by Jacob Bahe, with assist from Corbin Kollar.
In the third period, Becker-Big Lake took 10 shots. There were three penalties for BW, and two for the Eagles.
There was more close play with the Eagles scoring the game winning goal on a nice pass play from Mehlich to Keo to Kollar, who took a great shot.
There were six shots made by Eagles and 10 by BW in the period. Great goaltending was had by Alec Anderson, who allowed just two goals on 30 saves.
Moose Lake Area 2, Becker-Big Lake 1
Last week, the Eagles played against the Moose Lake Area and lost by one goal.
The game started off tight with Moose Lake outshooting Eagles 13 to six. The Eagles took two penalties and there was one Moose Lake penalty for interference.
Eagles player Jaden Keo got a penalty for hooking and towards the end of period, Luke Ruppelius was penalized for checking from behind. Then, Ruppelius earned another penalty for the same infraction which got him 10 minutes in the penalty box. Jacob Bahe received two penalties for checking from behind as well.
This situation left the Eagles to play 5-on-3 hockey for almost six minutes, resulting in one goal at the end of the first period.
In the second period, the Eagles killed off the remainder of penalties and the team poured it on with 19 shots and one goal by Tyler Schmitt, assisted by Trenton Rupar and Tucker Rhodes.
However, Moose Lake scored at the end of period two on bad pass in the defensive zone.
Overall, the Eagles suffered 38 minutes total for eight infractions. Becker-Big Lake took 36 shots and with mere minutes to go, pulled goalie Alec Anderson for the extra man to no avail.
Anderson finished with 31 saves.
