Eagles Lose 2 Over The Weekend

The Eagles hockey squad tangled with some pretty good competition over the past weekend, losing to Faribault, 4-2 in the second round of the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic, then to Cambridge-Isanti in overtime Saturday, 4-3.

Becker-Big Lake was in their most entertaining (but penalty-filled) game of the weekend at the Blaine Super Rink versus the Blue Jackets.

The local boys jumped out to a 2-0 first quarter lead on goals by Ethan Tobako, assisted by Austin Ryberg and Matt Huffman, and from Tyler Schmitt, assisted by Jaden Keo and Tobako.

The Blue Jackets stormed back to score three times in the second period to take a 3-2 lead.

But in the final stanza, Tobacko tied things up and overtime was prescribed.

But the giddiness was short-lived, as 32 seconds into the extra session, the Eagles took a penalty and C-I drove home the game winner.

Alec Anderson made 25 saves. The Eagles had 27 shots. B-BL had nine penalties; C-I had 11 trips to the box.

Faribault tied up the Eagles with a late first period goal.

The Eagles scored first on a goal by Trent Rupar, assisted by Jacob Bahe.

Faribault scored three times in the second period and that was the end of the scoring for them. B-BL got their second goal later on a shot by Keo, assisted by Schmitt and Tobaco. Anderson made 17 saves; B-BL outshot the Falcons, 27-21.

They continue their season today (Saturday) against Princeton.
