The Becker-Big Lake hockey team remains undefeated.
Eagles 4, Mora 1
Wednesday, the Eagles went head to head with Mora. It was a tight game in the first period; each team got penalties and no goals were made. The second period started with a goal from Ethan Orgon (#9), assisted by Jacob Bahe (#29). Then, the Eagles scored another nice passing play with Tyler Schmitt (#2) from Corbin Kollar (#3) and Tyler Ruppelius (#17). Eagles defended strong trying to keep their opponents off the scoreboard. Mora would score making it 2-1 to end the second period. Shots 13-22 were made after the second period. Eagles continued strong defensive play in the third period. Mora eventually pulled goalie to no avail. Corbin Kollar (#3) scored an empty net goal. Mora pulls goalie again in final minutes and Corbin Kollar scored another empty net goal to seal the win.
“There was strong team defensive play and excellent goaltending from Alec Anderson (#1)--saving 31 of 32 shots for a .969 save percentage,” said Coach Jason Hartfiel.
Eagles 4, Cambridge/Isanti 3
Last week, the Eagles boys’ hockey team played a tough game against Cambridge/Isanti. Cambridge scored the first goal of game. Then the Eagles outshot them 10-5 in the first period. Captain Corbin Kollar (#3) got started scoring for the Eagles to make it 1-1. Penalties by #24 Nate Kerzman (#24) 5:00 major and Ethan Orgon (#9) interference. Ethan Tobako (#22) scored a power play goal unassisted, taking the score up to 2-1.
Next, Cambridge scored a shorthanded goal after a fumbled puck on the point Eagles’ power play. Then, the Eagles scored again. Trenton Rupar (#37) was assisted by Austin Rydberg (#11) to start third period. Rydberg (#11) would score again unassisted to put the Eagles up 4-2. Cambridge would score again to bring it 4-3. Cambridge would then pull their goalie to try and tie it up. But Eagles would hang on to win! Goalie Alec Anderson (#1) got a win in the net.
