The Becker/Big Lake hockey team is coming off a banner year for the program in which they won 16 games, their most in over 10 years.
The Eagles won their playoff opener before falling to the eventual state champion, St. Cloud Cathedral. This year’s squad will have a lot of production to replace, including six of their top seven scorers from last season.
The Eagles tied 1-1 in their opener against Breckenridge/Wahpeton before Thanksgiving. The schedule continues 12/6 @ Pine City, 12/12 vs. Princeton, 12/13 @ Prairie Centre, 12/17 vs. Cambridge-Isanti, 12/19 vs. Chisago Lakes, 12/20 @ Sauk Rapids-Rice, 12/26-28 @ Fergus Falls Tournament, 1/3 @ Northern Edge, 1/7 vs. Monticello, 1/11 @ La Crescent-Hokah, 1/13 @ Willmar, 1/17 vs. Pine City, 1/21 @ River Lakes, 1/23 @ Princeton, 1/25 @ Breckenridge/Wahpeton, 1/28 @ Cambridge-Isanti, 1/30 vs. Moose Lake, 1/31 @ Windom Area, 2/3 vs. Mora, 2/4 vs. Prairie Centre, 2/6 vs. Northern Edge, and 2/8 @ Bagley. Section playoffs begin on February 15th.
This year’s roster includes defensemen Marek Gerads, Brody Barth, Eddie Lane, Jack Schwartz, James Chaffee, Owen Bearson, Blayne Varner, Ethan Grafnitz, Ashdon Draeger, Gavin Leitold, Hayden Kipka, Gunnar Hanson, Jaxon Reiffenberger, and Hunter Heitkamp. Forwards for this year are Van Dugger, Elliot Ginter, Titus Borkoski, Brandt Hemmelgarn, Finn Kellogg, Brant Rusin, Gavin Jacobson, Garrett Marotz, Owen Zahler, Raymond Clark, Carter Tatge, Josh Peterson, Jackson Peterson, Nolan O’Neal, Tate Spilde, Wyatt Bodle, Lucas Hancock, Tucker Tatge, and Tanner Felton. And the goaltenders are Thomas Zerwas, Elliott Grafnitz, Cooper Peterson, and Max Klassen.
Zach Barzee is back as head coach of the Eagles and joining him on staff are Thomas Kluk and Henry Brady.
