Northern Lakes 8, BBL 6
The Eagles received the ninth seed in the section playoffs, which meant they traveled to Northern Lakes (NL). The Eagles lost to them there 7-1 and had a rematch.
In period one, an Eagles penalty led to the first NL goal on a powerplay. It was a close first period with NL skating and forechecking very well.
In period two, a powerplay goal was cored by Tyler Schmitt, assisted by Grayson Hopper. NL would later score to go up 2-1.
The Eagles would tie with Luke Ruppelius scoring, assisted by Jacob Bahe and Tyler Ruppelius.
NL would score to go up 3-2 then again to go up 4-2.
Tyler Ruppelius would score off nice steal from NL defense towards the end of the second period. The Eagles played very well in the second having a stretch in NL territory for about eight minutes. NL scored quick goals without much zone time in BBL’s end thanks in part to NL’s Shane Donovan. He had four points total for game.
As period three commenced with the score at 4-3, the Eagles’ Grayson Hopper scored his first varsity goal off a nice pass from Trenton Rupar. Later, with the score at 5-4, NL received a penalty and the Eagles went on a powerplay. They got a goal from Grayson Hopper with assists from Tyler Schmitt and Tyler Ruppelius.
With the score at 8-5, the Eagles called a timeout. They pulled goalie Alec Anderson for extra man and got a goal by Luke Ruppelius with assist credit to Kellen Hurt and Ethan Tobako. Anderson had 27 saves.
“This was an exciting game to end the season with,” said Coach Jason Hartfiel. “It has been a very good season for most of Eagles. The Eagles coaches are excited to see this group develop. A lot of guys this year were sophomores. Lots of room for improvements. Play more hockey, Eagles.”
Prairie Center 5, BBL 2
It was a good start to the game against Prairie Center (PC) on Valentine’s Day with the Eagles scoring on first shift. Corbin Kollar got the goal with assists from Ethan Tobako and Dylan Pishney.
PC scored four minutes later to tie the game.
Then, it was back and forth play for the next 10 minutes until PC tallied another goal.
The Eagles followed with a goal of their own less than a minute later when Trenton Rupar netted a shot with help from Tucker Rhodes and Jacob Boe.
In the third period, physical play started. Four BBL penalties were called and three for PC.
The Eagles were out hustled, only getting three shots in the final stanza, while PC notched 13. Eagles played well for over half the game, however they let up some in the third.
The Eagles finish the season 11-13-1 for their second best win percentage in Eagles history.
“We have a good young team moving forward with a strong up coming junior class,” said Coach Hartfiel.
