The Becker/Big Lake hockey team defeated the Willmar Cardinals on Monday by a score of 8-2. The Eagles raced out to leads of 2-0 after one and 5-1 after two periods.
Tate Spilde got the scoring started in the first period with an unassisted goal. Later in the period Ethan Grafnitz added another. The team kept rolling in the second with goals by Raymond Clark and Titus Borkoski to extend the lead to 4-0. Willmar got on the board with a goal of their own, but Nolan O’Neal got it right back with a score before the end of the period. In the third period the Eagles got three more goals from Garrett Marotz, Tanner Felton, and another from Spilde.
Jack Schwartz, Owen Zahler, Elliott Grafnitz, Gavin Leitold, and Hayden Kipka all had assists.
Vs. Lancers
Last Saturday the Eagles travelled to La Crescent/Hokah and came home with a 5-5 tie. The team was able to take advantage of five power play opportunities with three goals in those chances.
After falling behind 4-2 late in the second period, the Eagles got back-to-back goals from Owen Zahler and Gavin Jacobson to tie the game up headed to the third. The Lancers pulled ahead again in third, but Raymond Clark scored with just over a minute remaining to send the game to overtime. Neither team was able to score in extra time, so the game ended 5-5. Gunnar Hanson and Carter Tatge scored one goal each. Tate Spilde added four assists and Ethan Grafnitz had two of his own.

The team hosts Pine City on Friday night before traveling to Richmond next Tuesday to take on River Lakes.
