Eagles defeat Storm

The Becker/Big Lake hockey team picked up their first win of the season with a 5-4 victory over Sauk Rapids-Rice on Friday night. The Eagles had to rally back from multiple two-goal deficits to earn the victory.

Sauk Rapids raced out to a 2-0 lead after the first period and led 3-1 early in the second. Owen Zahler scored the first goal for the Eagles off an assist from Hayden Kipka. After falling behind 3-1, Becker/Big Lake rattled off three unanswered goals to take a 4-3 lead. Tate Spilde scored two of them and Brant Rusin added the other. The Storm were able to tie the game at four and the game looked like it was headed to overtime, but Tate Spilde found the net for a third time with just 13 seconds remaining to secure the win.

Vs. Wildcats

On Thursday the team lost 4-1 to the Chisago Lakes Wildcats. The Eagles fell behind 2-0 after the first period before Tate Spilde scored an unassisted goal a few minutes into the second. However, the Wildcats answered quickly with a power play goal. Chisago added another before the end of the period to extend their lead again. Elliott Grafnitz stopped 43 out of 47 shots for a 91.5% save percentage.

Now the team will travel to Fergus Falls for games against Breckenridge/Wahpeton, Fergus Falls, and Albert Lea on December 26, 27, and 28.
