The Becker/Big Lake hockey team lost 6-5 to Northern Edge last Friday night despite outshooting their opponent 45-25.
The Eagles held a 2-0 lead early in the second period but found themselves trailing 6-3 late in the third and were unable to overcome the deficit.
Gunnar Hanson scored the only goal for either team in the first period off an assist from Tanner Felton. Then, less than a minute into the second period, Felton and Carter Tatge found Garrett Marotz who scored to put the Eagles up 2-0.
But Northern Edge rattled off three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead.
Becker/Big Lake would tie things back up with a Brant Rusin goal off assists from Owen Zahler and Gavin Jacobson. That goal made the score 3-3 heading into the third and final period.
Northern Edge dominated the first half of the period, again scoring three consecutive goals to take a 6-3 lead. However, Tate Spilde scored two goals less than a minute apart to bring the Eagles back within a goal with just over a minute remaining. The Eagles were unable to find the back of the net again as the comeback attempt fell just short.
