The Becker baseball team ran out of hits in the playoffs and bowed out of the double elimination tournament last week with losses to Monticello and Big Lake.
Vs. Magic
Last Thursday, Becker fell to Monticello, 6-0. The Magic put together two big innings, scoring three runs apiece in both the first and third innings to seal the win. The Bulldogs managed just three hits in the game, one each from Gerad Hanle, Chase Stupar and Jack Fischer.
Sophomore righty Hunter Pietrowski went the distance on the mound for Becker, throwing all six innings and scattering seven hits while striking out three Magic batters.
Vs. Hornets
The loss knocked the Bulldogs into the loser’s bracket, where they faced off against the Big Lake Hornets in a Saturday afternoon affair. Nothing went right for the Bulldogs, as they were no-hit by the Hornets in a 11-1 loss that was called after five innings due to the run rule.
The Dogs did score an unearned run in the top of the first to take a brief lead, but Coach Loren Holthaus had his Hornets ready as they responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.
Becker’s Ethyn Cantin started on the mound and went 2.2 innings, striking out four Hornet batters and yielding seven hits. Austin Rimmer came on in relief and went the final 2.2 innings, also striking out four Hornet batters. Becker’s pitching staff surrendered seven walks and also hit two batters.
Meanwhile, the Hornets received great pitching performances from Jackson LaRoche, who went two innings and struck out five Bulldog hitters, and Owen Wilczek, who went the final three innings and fanned eight Dogs.
With the loss, Becker ended their season with a 9-13 record overall.
