The Becker Bulldogs competitive dance team, the Dazzlers, continues to sweep through their competition, placing first at their last three events including taking home a first ever conference title for Becker dance.
Last Tuesday the team traveled to Big Lake High School for conference kick against Big Lake, Chisago Lakes, Monticello, North Branch and Saint Francis, bringing home 1st place.
“We changed a lot of the routine in hopes of adding difficulty points,” said Head Coach Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen. “The execution wasn’t great so we’re hoping that at conference champs on Friday and Eastview on Saturday we’ve got a more solid performance for more accurate scores.”
The team achieved their goal, winning conference JV jazz, varsity jazz and varsity kick last Friday night.
“It was a clean sweep for us!” said Danzeisen.
Friday’s win broke more scoring records for the Dazzlers, and they received their first 9 out of 10 from a judge.
“Becker has had only one other 9 before six years ago in jazz,” said Danzeisen. “Kick received its second 9 on Saturday in Eastview. It was a weekend of nines!”
During competition each judge has 10 categories they’re scoring in, each category is worth up to 10 points. The Dazzlers’ two nines this week were in Routine Effectiveness and Creativity.
“Becker dance has never won a conference title before,” said Danzeisen. “That’s probably what the girls are most excited about, feeling like they’re actually making a difference and helping the school recognize dance as a competitive sport.”
“I was so impressed with the quality performances they had on Saturday after already competing twice earlier in the week,” said Danzeisen. “We got home at midnight on Friday and were on the bus again on Saturday at 6:15 a.m.”
“Eastview held a field of almost all state competitors, so I knew that being at the top wouldn’t be a realistic goal. Overall, I’m pleased with our placements and scores. It allows me to see what areas we need to work on to qualify for state and final once we get there.”
The team’s All-Conference members were also announced last Friday, and include Senior Captain Cienna Pleoger, Senior Captain Madison Pleoger, Junior Captain Paige Mohs and Junior Captain Skylar Kipka.
Having never won a conference title before the team didn’t even have a banner. One is being made for them now.
