Dazzlers Take Fourth In Alexandria

The Becker dance team ended it's season February third at Alexandria High School at the 4AA section meet. The top three qualifiers in each division advance to the State Tournament. Advancing again this year are teams from Sartell, Rocori and St Cloud Cathedral in both the kick and jazz divisions.

Varsity jazz had a very strong showing this year finishing fourth among a strong field of competitors, their highest finish ever at sections, just missing a trip to state.

“I am so proud of the effort and focus exhibited by this team all season. There were trying moments during this season, like every other sports team, but they didn't let it effect their goals. We had a vision of taking 3rd at sections to quality for state. So, while taking 4th in jazz is very exciting; it is also a little disappointing. I am hoping this gives the team some encouragement to work hard in the off season so they're even more prepared next season.” said Coach Fischer-Danzeisen.

“Fourth place can be the hardest place to finish...so close, but still the end to the season. The 2AA Section is very competitive, fourth place is a huge accomplishment that this team can be very proud of. I know this team will continue to work hard and come back even stronger next season,” said Coach Baloun.

Varsity kick also had a strong performance, but did not fair as well in their finish placing tenth.

“The team was the second team to compete in kick. They came out strong, with high energy and performed well. With this performance, I honestly expected a higher placement.  They had a higher total score than two teams who placed ahead of them, but ended up placing lower when rank points were totaled.  Rank points in the Kick division were a little divided at this competition not only for Becker, but for some other teams as well.  Becker was actually ranked in third place by one judge and fourth place by the Superior judge, but when rank points were tabulated , they ended in tenth. This is a part of our scoring system that can be difficult to understand. While the final result was not what I was hoping for, I am happy with the effort and performance they put out on the floor. Next season we will come back a more experienced team ready to battle it out with our tough Conference and Section competitors." said Baloun.

"While I know kick didn't place how they wanted to at sections, they also had a great year  scoring multiple   8's throughout the season with the new score sheet! It was exciting to watch their energy grow throughout the season. There will be multiple returners for next season so it will be another exciting year for BDT," said Coach Fischer-Danzeisen.

The Becker dance team is busy this week with their youth Dazzler Hip Hop Dance Camp. 35 children from pre-school through fifth grade participated in this camp and performed at half-time of the Becker basketball game on Thursday.
