The Becker dance team kicked off the new year with a fun Guy/Girl performance at half-time during the girls basketball game last Thursday. Team members invited middle school and high school guys to join them for this performance. The group got together for three early morning practices to learn the routine. Thursday evening, they performed and entertained the home crowd.
“It was a nice break in the middle of a busy season for the girls to do something fun. The guys did a great job and the crowd loved it," said the dance team coaches.
It was back to business for the team at their regular practices as they prepared for competition at Alexandria Jan. 6.
The teams were busy perfecting changes to routines that were made over Christmas break.
"Routines are always evolving as we try to use the score sheet in ways that will continue to build scores," said Coach Baloun.
The dance team kicked off the new year with strong performances at the Alexandria Invite. Varsity jazz started the day for the team.
"Changes that were made over break seemed to pay off as we saw improvements to scores. The team performed well and I expect to see scores continue to climb as we clean and perfect those changes in the coming weeks," said Coach Fischer-Danzeisen.
Varsity jazz scores earned them a fourth place finish at this competition.
JV jazz competed next, danced strong and earned a second place finish out of 12teams, bringing home some hardware.
"This was their strongest performance of the season so far. They landed turns stronger and danced with more confidence than they have in previous competitions. This is a young and talented group that I expect to continue to grow and improve as the season moves on," said Baloun.
Varsity kick entertained the crowd with their Kiss medley routine finishing in the top half of the field in sixth place.
"Stamina and energy are something we have been working on this season, so that we finish strong. Although it is something we will continue to work on, I did feel that there was an improvement in those areas at this competition. The changes we made also seemed to work as this team earned their highest scores of the season. They were able to earn an eight out of 10 in both difficulty of kicks and routine effectiveness categories from individual judges," said Baloun.
JV kick also finished sixth out of 12 teams at this competition.
“This is a fun routine and they perform with a lot of energy. We will continue to work on improving the technique of our kicks and skills for the remainder of the season. This team has come a long way already this season and I expect to see them continue to improve," said Coach Fischer-Danzeisen.
The dance team will be competing at Rocori Saturday and in Monticello Jan. 26. The section tournament will be held in Alexandria Feb. 3. If you would like to watch the team perform at home, they will perform at basketball half-time Jan. 26.
