The Becker Dazzlers competitive dance team came in first in both varsity jazz and kick at the St. Michael-Albertville High School Invitational last week, where they were one of 11 teams hosted by the school.
While the team has been placing well throughout the season, this was their first time in the number one spots.
“It was nice to take first place,” said Coach Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen. “Hopefully we can keep the momentum going!”
Not only did varsity jazz place first in the invitational, they also broke a Becker school record, achieving the highest score the teams have ever received, with total points of 332.
The team and coaches are excited for their next competitions, and are focused on continuing to fine-tune their routines and executions.
“We’re looking forward to making final changes to ensure we stay ahead of our competition and compete well at our All Conference Meet on Thursday (Jan. 24) and have a good showing a Mounds View on Saturday (Jan. 26),” said Danzeisen. Editor’s note: Both competitions will be covered in next week’s edition of the Citizen-Tribune.
“With the season coming to an end the pressure is definitely building with anticipation of the results at sections,” said Danzeisen. “However, it’s been fun to mentally prepare in different ways so when the time comes the team feels over-prepared to handle any anxiety.”
Last year the Dazzlers took fourth at the 4AA section meet, their highest finish yet. This year they hope to make it to state.
“This Thursday (Jan. 24) will be a good test for them,” said Danzeisen. “There’s a lot on the line at conference.”
The Dazzlers will next head to Alexandria High School for varsity section on Feb. 2.
