The Becker Dazzlers competitive dance team traveled to Alexandria Jan. 5 to compete in a 12-team invitational. Continuing their strong season, varsity kick, varsity jazz and JV jazz all placed third at the tournament.
“We are very excited to see we are only 12 points behind the ROCORI Kick state-going team,” said Coach Nadia Fischer-Danzeisen. “Coach Megan and I were so excited with our kick performance. We thought it was a great start to 2019.”
The Dazzlers beat all of the kick teams in four categories, difficulty of routine, choreography, difficulty of formations and transitions, and visual effectiveness.
Varsity jazz beat the second-place team in points but not in rank points.
“This is the first time this season for us that rank points and total score have not been congruent,” said Danzeisen. “So, that was hard as a team to talk through and explain how and why that happens.”
It was also the first time this season the Dazzlers had a large range of ranks from first to sixth place in varsity jazz.
“While our scores were all within 10 points of each other per judge (which is typical), we have not experienced this amount of discrepancy on where we should be placed yet,” added Danzeisen.
The Dazzlers next compete at St. Michael-Albertville Invitational Jan. 19.
“We’re looking forward to taking this next weekend off and just performing at a couple of basketball games,” said Danzeisen.
