MEMBERS OF THE DAZZLERS helped coordinate the halftime show of dance campers at last Friday’s football game at Eppard Field.

Dance Campers Learn Fast, Then Perform During Halftime

The Becker High School Dazzlers dance team finished their annual Fall Dazzler dance camp, Sept. 18-21.

This camp serves as a fundraiser for the team and is open to boys and girls ages three to 12. This year, 51 youths registered for the camp, with a waiting list to get in.

The campers learned and practiced a routine during the week and then had the opportunity to perform at halftime of the Becker homecoming football game last week.

“This year, we had a younger-than-average group for our fall camp,” said Coach Julie Baloun. “We had more pre-school, kindergarten and first graders register then we have typically have at this camp.”

Baloun says it makes for a busy week, but she, her dancers and her coaches have so much fun seeing them all perform together on the field.

“It's a great way to involve kids in the sport of dance,” she said. “It's exciting to see so many kids interested in the sport!  We look forward to it every year!”

The Dazzlers hold three youth camps each year, one in the fall, one in the winter and one in the summer.  The next camp will be held in February, with the performance at a home basketball game. Registration for the Dazzler dance camps is through Becker Community Education.

This year, a fall dance team was also started.  Baloun says there is not  an audition process for this non-competitive team — which is run through Becker Community Education. The fall team consists of girls in grades seven through 12 and is a separate program from the winter competitive team.

The fall team will be performing at half-time of the home Becker high school football games.

Practices for the winter competitive season begin Oct. 23.
