In last week’s story on the Becker boys’ basketball win over Monticello, information regarding the name of the player scoring the winning buckets was misidentified as Dawson Brown.
Jake Fobbe was actually the star of the game.
With one minute and a half left in last Tuesday’s game on the road, Becker found themselves down by a score of 57-53 and Michael Veldman with his hands on the ball.
Veldman was challenged and eventually nailed a three-pointer to bring Becker within one.
The Magic turned the ball over on the next possession and on Becker’s ensuing trip down the court, Jake Fobbe hit his first bucket of the game, a three-pointer, to give the lead back to Becker at 59-57.
Monticello had one more answer, getting a huge offensive rebound from Isaiah Wills on the next possession. Wills was fouled, and with 27.5 seconds left, he stepped to the line and knocked down both free throws for his first two points of the game to tie the score.
With the Bulldogs holding the final possession, Veldman drove and kicked to Fobbe, who stepped into a three-pointer and buried his second shot of the game in as many possessions, this one the dagger that would end Monticello’s season.
