Changamire sets school record in win over Hornets

Fan Appreciation Night always draws a large crowd to the Becker gym and Tuesday night, Bulldog girls basketball fans had numerous reasons to cheer: a 75-43 win over the Big Lake Hornets and a new school single game scoring record for eighth grader Andie Changamire, who poured in 43 points.

The budding phenom had 23 points before halftime and added 20 in the final half to secure her place in the record books.

“Andie was aggressive all night and she deserved the record,” Coach Dan Baird said.  “She did it unselfishly.”

Becker led 41 to 22 at halftime and shot extremely well as a team, as both teams kept out of foul trouble.

Becker attempted just three free throws in the game and the Hornets attempted four.

Big Lake scoring: Ashley Fitzgibbons 14, Shiloh Elliott five, Mya Knapp eight, Greta Layton two, Alexa Parks 12, Natalie McCormack two.

Becker scoring: Andie Changamire 43, Adele Changamire 15, Josie Reckelberg nine, Ady Petty two, Ella Otteson two, Tess Brown four.

Bluejackets

Last Friday, the Bulldogs picked up their sixth consecutive M8 win with a 68-25 drubbing of Cambridge-Isanti.

Becker built a 40-15 halftime lead in the home game and then cruised the rest of the way, with eight different Bulldogs scoring in the game.

Andie Changamire was a one player stat machine, scoring 21 points, while grabbing four rebounds and hauling in five steals and assists.  Adele Changamire also had the hot hand, scoring 17 points including going three-for-five from beyond the arc.

Other scorers included Josie Reckelberg with seven, Lauren Croal six, Juliana Stach five, Eilidh Mrnak seven, Adyson Petty two, and Tess Brown three.

Huskies

Thursday night, Becker fell to Albany,  59-50.

The Changamire sisters each had 13 points for Becker, while Brown added 10.  Free throw shooting doomed the Dogs, who hit just five of 19 from the charity stripe in the game.
