Changamire sets school record in GBB loss to Sabres

The Becker girls basketball team dropped a close 59-57 loss to the Sartell Sabres last Friday in the opening round of the Granite City Classic.

Despite the loss, Bulldog eighth grader Andie Changamire put forth an amazing individual effort, scoring 32 points and setting the school record with 11 steals in the game.

“Andie scored 32 points and it was on her birthday so it was pretty special,” Coach Dan Baird said.  “She also set a school record with 11 steals in the game.”

The Bulldogs dug an early hole, falling behind 41-26 at halftime before mounting their comeback bid.  Changamire scored 18 points in the first half and added 14 in the second stanza.

“It was a nice comeback by the team, but we fell short as Sartell scored a game winning runner in the lane,” Baird said.  “It’s a tough loss that we need to learn and grow from.”

Becker held the Sabres to just seven field goals after the intermission, but couldn’t close out the game down the stretch.

Scoring: Andie Changamire 32, Adele Changamire eight, Lauren Croal six, Tess Brown seven, Juliana Stach three, Josie Reckelberg one.

Vs. Hornets

The Bulldogs took on Edina in the second game of the Classic and lost 73-56.  Edina led 42-30 at halftime, as Becker had trouble rebounding against the taller Metro area team.

“We lost to a team that killed us on the boards,” Baird said.

Andie Changamire poured in 21 points, including 10 free throws, while Adele Changamire had 17 points for the Bulldogs.

Five other Bulldogs scored points in the game: Reckelberg three, Eilidh Mrnak four, Brown four, Stach three, Ady Petty two.

Saturday, the Bulldogs played at Duluth East High School versus Rock Ridge, while Tuesday night the Bulldogs will return to Mississippi 8 action with a road contest in Zimmerman.  A note to fans that Zimmerman does not accept cash payments at the door so purchasing tickets online in advance is recommended.
