THE CHAMBER GOLFERS (above) gathered around the putting green and “chucked” golf balls with numbers on them towards a designated hole to try and win a prize. This all happened just prior to teeing off in the Becker Chamber Olympic-themed Golf Tournament last Thursday at Pebble Creek. (Photo from Facebook).

Chamber Golf Tournament is golden

The Becker Chamber of Commerce held their annual golf scramble at Pebble Creek in Becker last week to the delight of hundreds of “duffers”. The theme was “Olympic” which meant many participants wore Red, White and Blue hats, shirts and skirts.

The weather was off and on sunny but the challenge was trying to navigate the gusty winds. Temperatures were in the upper 60s and it almost felt like a fall tournament rather than a mid-summer event.

All teams were issued carts and were assigned holes on the Local 9 side of Pebble Creek. To kick the event off, golfers who signed up were invited to the main putting green to chuck a ball at a designated hole to win a prize. Avery Johnson rolled her ball straight into the cup and captured the first prize of the day.

Several holes featured tents with local businesses conducting challenges for prizes. Some of the challenges were putting, driving a marshmallow for distance, a hoop toss, chipping  trials and tossing games. Wruck Sewer had a port-a-potty at their site and invited golfers to chip into the toilet of a clean privy.

Hole sponsor signs were placed throughout the course and one hole had a contest to win $10,000 for a hole-in-one shot (which no one won).

Following the fun on the course, all participants were invited to the dining area for a buffet supper consisting of meatballs, chicken wings, bruschetta and lots of fruits and veggies. There was also a dessert area that featured crepes with gobs of fruit, sugar and chocolate toppings.

All golfers were allotted a free drink ticket to kick off the afternoon festivities and there was also a silent auction made available that spotlighted golf trips, gift baskets and foods and beverages in bottles, boxes and cans.

Congratulations to the winners (and losers) of the event and a special thank you to the sponsors, volunteers and guests who made the 2024 Chamber Golf Tournament.

It was a gold medal day!
