Last Saturday, the Becker Buzzards were completely outplayed by the Minnetonka Lakers and fell by a score of 13-0.
It was the Buzzards’ first ever match up with this team and things were a disaster from the get-go, according to Co-Manager Mark Kolbinger.
“Rain drizzled the field for most of the day and we just didn't come out and play very good ball,” said Kolbinger.
The Lakers scored four in the first inning and added another four in the fifth to jump out to an insurmountable lead. They put the game away with five runs in the seventh inning.
Defensively, Becker had a few lapses and just couldn't get anything going at the plate.
Jason Pfingsten started on the mound and went 4-1/3 innings. His defense let him down as they committed two errors in the first inning, giving the Lakers the chance to get on top and stay there. “Bottom line, we played our worst game of the season,” said Kolbinger.
One bright spot for the Buzzards was the return of Dave Hinnenkamp, who saw his first action of the season. “He's a solid hitter and can help us on the mound as well,” said Kolbinger. “He has a great knowledge of the game.”
Gary Gilbert also came back for the weekend and played for the Buzzards, making some outstanding catches in center field.
“We could use Gary's bat in the lineup more often as well,” said the co-manager.
No Buzzard had more than one hit for the team.
Saturday, the Buzzards are in Alexandria for a doubleheader.
