Buzzards Improve To 3 0 In League Play

In a rematch of last year's Class B state championship game, the Becker Buzzards took on the Alexandria Classic Clippers  Sunday afternoon.
Both contests were low scoring affairs, but the Buzzards stayed undefeated in league play with two big wins.

Clippers 1
In game one, Brian Kolbinger got the start for the Buzzards and kept the Clippers off the board until the top of the third when a hit and a walk led to a run.
Becker knotted the score with a run in the bottom of the fourth when  Rich Petty doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jim Schmitz.
The score remained tied at one until the bottom of the seventh when the Buzzards manufactured a run with two walks, a hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Petty.
Tanner Bakke picked up the win as he entered the rotation in the fifth and held the Classic Clippers scoreless for the final three innings.

In game two, the Buzzards got on the board first when Josh May hit a two-out double and came in to score on an infield single from Jason Baune.
The Clippers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third, but the Buzzards quickly retook the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth.  Steve Newman and Petty led off the inning with singles and a sacrifice fly, walk and error allowed both runners to score and make the score 3-1.
That would be the final as the combination of Bakke (three innings) and Jason Pfingsten (four innings) shut down the Classic Clippers the rest of the way.
With the wins, the Buzzards move to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in league play.
