Buzzards Continue Winning Ways With Doubleheader Sweep

The Becker Buzzards baseball team traveled to Alexandria Sunday for a double header and came away with two more league victories, moving their league recored to 5-0 (7-2 overall).
Becker 9, Verndale 4
In game one, Becker took on the Verndale Geezers.  
The Geezers got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first on three singles.  
In the top of the third, the Buzzard bats came alive and scored five runs on six hits and a hit batter.  Doubles by Kyle Sytsma and Rich Petty — along with a Jason Pfingsten triple — highlighted the inning.  
The Geezers answered with another run in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5-2.  They gained some more ground with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to bring them within a run, but the Buzzards distanced themselves with four runs in the top of the sixth to complete the scoring.  
Brian Kolbinger got the start and the win on the mound, while Tanner Bakke finished off the game and picked up the save.  
The seventh spot in the line-up was red-hot as Matt O'Neill and Dino Diaz combined to go 4-for-4 in the game.

Fergus Falls 1
The opponent in game two was the Fergus Falls Riverdogs.  
The Buzzards once again fell behind as the Riverdogs scored a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.  
In the top of the third, Tony Graning doubled and came in to score to tie the game.  
The score remained 1-1 until the top of the fifth when O'Neill, Graning and Diaz hit consecutive singles.  O'Neill and Graning scored to give the Buzzards a 3-1 lead.  
Pfingsten singled and scored in the sixth and the Buzzards added three more in the top of the seventh to seal the deal.  
Pfingsten got the start and the win, while Bakke again entered in the late innings to close things out.  Graning was 3-3 with three runs scored in the game.
Up Next
The Buzzards will again be on the road this weekend as they play a big doubleheader in Urbank Saturday afternoon.  The opponents will be the perennial power Urbank Goldtimers at 2 p.m. and the defending league champion Menahga/Sebeka Relics at 4 p.m.
