The Becker boys soccer team continues to adjust to the loss of 10 seniors from last year’s team, but the Bulldogs did celebrate the first day of school last week with a victory over Cambridge-Isanti.
“Two bright spots in the game were captains Brigham Ebert and Troy Nuest scoring the first varsity goals of their career,” said Coach Nick Crowley. “We were tied at half and with about 10 minutes left in the game, Troy Nuest scored a scrappy goal to take the lead and secure the win.”
A week earlier, in the season opener, Becker fell 0-2 to a very good St. Cloud Apollo team.
“We played well, but we just didn’t have the depth,” Crowley added.
A day later, Becker played a back-to-back and fell to Spectrum on a goal in the last two minutes. Crowley highlighted Paxton Ament’s free kick goal as a highlight.
Becker also faced off against Monticello early in the season and the Bulldogs came out a bit flat, allowing two goals in the first five minutes. But from there, Becker settled down and played the Magic evenly for the second half.
“We battled in the second half but couldn’t produce a goal,” Crowley said of the 0-3 loss.
After the win over the Bluejackets, Becker was again in a back-to-back situation and went to Princeton for another Mississippi 8 battle, one that resulted in a 0-0 draw.
