Bulldogs swimmers shine in first meet

For their first meet of the season, the Becker Swimming and Diving team started a new tradition this year with their first annual Bulldog Relay Meet.  Featuring five teams and all relay events, the Bulldogs took third place and used the event to celebrate a return to normalcy in the Aquatic Center.

“This was a fun twist on a ‘regular’ meet just to get the girls back into the swing of things,” said Coach Tina Tamm. “All the events were relays so there was no pressure to compete as an individual.”

Part of the fun of the meet was the return of multiple teams participating in the event, as a year ago only dual meets were allowed.  Milaca, Albany, Ogilvie and St. Cloud Cathedral joined the Bulldogs for the relay event.

“After not having any invitational meets last year it was fun to start this season off with a five-team meet,” Tamm said. “It was loud in the pool again and It was great to have spectators in the bleachers again.”

The Bulldogs’ dive relay of Sarah Woelfel and Lauren Woelfel took first place, while the 4x100 Individual Medley relay team took second place behind the efforts of Delaney Varney, Grace Gifford, Grace Wynia and Laila Cook.

“We had some great individual swims within these relays and I look forward to seeing how the girls compete on an individual level,” Tamm said. “These girls have set some really great goals for their season – both team and individual goals – and I can’t wait to see them achieve those goals.”

Becker is slated to host Milaca on Tuesday night in the first dual meet of the season. Complete details will be available in next week’s Patriot.
