The Becker Bulldog boys basketball team went 1-1 this week, beating Dassel-Cokato last Friday and losing to Delano Thursday at home.
Delano 64, Becker 50
The Bulldogs struggled with stopping two of Delano’s big stars — Derek Techam and Trey Longstreet — who scored 45 of the team’s 64 points in a big road win against the Bulldogs.
Becker was led by Brandon Gustafson, who tallied 17 points and Sam Ricker, who notched 16. At times the game seemed a little disjointed as turnovers and fouls disrupted the flow.
Techam made things look easy as he awkwardly scooped shots over Becker defenders and nailed big threes. Longstreet — a sophomore — used his height advantage and swiftness to deke in and out of defenders and launch sweet shots that found the bottom of the twine.
Gustafson had to work hard for his 17 points — outmuscling his opponents underneath the rim and bouncing off bodies and taking elbows. Ricker seemed to have quick first steps and wasn’t afraid to attack the basket or shoot from just outside the lane.
Delano built a 36-30 lead at halftime and maintained that lead throughout the second half.
Other scorers for Becker were Nick Mittelstaedt (5), Carter Hietala (2), Basil Ricker (2), Nick Knute (4) and Cade Callahan (4).
The Tigers also got scoring from Terron O'Neill (10), Keagen Smith (4), Max Otto (4) and Dylan Hall (1).
Becker 62, Dassel-Cokato 45
Last Friday, Becker traveled to Dassel-Cokato and won by 17.
The game was tight from the beginning, with the Chargers and Bulldogs trading baskets during the first half. It was relatively low-scoring and when the clock ticked to zero after the first 18 minutes, the Bulldogs were up 23-21.
It was a completely different story in the second half as Becker poured on the offense (39 points) and the defense stood tall, limiting DC to just 24.
Becker was led by Callahan, who recorded 23 points. Sam Ricker also reached double figures with his 12 points.
The Chargers were led by Collin Krick, who buried 25 points in the loss. Other scorers for DC were, Luke Woetzel (7), Ethan Mayer (6), Cade Ortquist (2), Josiah Bullivant (2), Noah Jenkins (2) and Noah James (1).
Becker also got scoring from Mittelstaedt (9), Gabe Lindbom (9), Gustafson (4), Basil Ricker (2), Knute (2) and Cole Koste (1).
