The Bulldog wrestling team split a triangular at home Thursday, defeating Paynesville, 53-21 and losing to Rocori, 31-27.
Becker 53, Paynesville 21
The Bulldogs started fast against Paynesville, with Mason Doucette, 11-2 decision, Adam Jurek, forfeit, Lukas Paulson, fall at 5:18, and Kylen Rish, 4:50 fall, helping them to a 22-0 lead.
Alex Lumley fell by a 2:19 fall at 132, but Caden Dewall picked them up with a 4:59 pinfall win in the next match. Blake Paulson lost by 10-4 decision, then the Becker boys rolled again. Jacob Berning got a forfeit win, then Logan Jurek won by pin to raise the match score to 40-9.
Connor Eickhoff and Lincoln Carlson kept the heat on with 10-8 and 12-2 decisions at 160 and 170.
Nicholas Goff suffered a pinfall loss at 1:15, then the Bulldogs gave up a forfeit before Nick Radunz pinned Lucas Peterson at 4:38 to conclude things.
Rocori 31, Becker 27
A forfeit at 220 was the difference in the meet as the Bulldogs fell short to Rocori. Nick Radunz’s 5-2 decision over Dylan Schafer could only help draw them closer than the final score.
Doucette lost at 106, then Adam Jurek, Lukas Paulson and Rish got wins (Rish’ by a :41 pinfall) and Becker was in the lead, 12-4.
Alex Lumley and Dewall lost their matches and Rocori was up, 13-12. Then Paulson and Jurek registered decisions and Becker claimed the lead again, 18-13.
Braden Beutz, Eickhoff and Carlson lost matches and Rocori stretched their lead to 25-18. Goth came through win a pinfall at 5:12 over Henry Theis, but that lead up to the forfeit and finally Radunz’ decision victory.
Chisago Lakes Tourney
The wrestlers tangled with some very good competition at the Chisago Lakes Invitational last Friday, finishing fourth among seven teams.
Top AAA state rated Anoka claimed 10 individual titles enroute to their 271.5 team points, easily good enough to take top spot.
Thereafter followed Park, 140.5; Cloquet-Esko-Carlson, 108; Becker, 89; Chisago Lakes, 70.5; Proctor-Hermantown, 56; and Richfield, 55.
Becker managed to put 11 wrestlers on the podium.
Alex Lumley, 132, finished fourth, falling to Zeb Wehr of C-E-C in the third place match, 5-0.
At 138, Becker had two men place, Jacob Berning, third, and Kevin Andres, fifth. Berning, 15-7, beat Tyler Young, Anoka, 5-0 in his final match; Andres, 13-11, beat Griffin Fjeld of C-E-C, 73 in his fifth place match. At 145, Becker had two more wrestlers. Logan Jurek, 14-10, lost his third place match to Justin Jones, C-E-C, 6-4.
Paulson finished fifth with a 5-1 decision over Donald Murillo, Proctor-Hermantown. He is 12-8 on the season.
Eickoff and Alex Berglund of Becker finished second and third at 152. Connor lost to Colby Jjos, Anoka via pinfall at 1:00. Berglund, 1-1, beat Austin Siefert, Chisago Lakes, via pinfall at 2:33.
Braeden Buetz lost his third place match to Brendan Huffman, Chisago Lakes, on a decision.
Carlson finished fourth after losing by a 5-1 decision to Reese Millier-Sheldon, C-E-C.
Radunz, 16-4, lost his final match to Brandon Frankfruth, Anoka, by a 4-0 score. Earlier, he had pinned Colton Covington, Proctor-Hermantown.
The week was big for two Becker wrestlers, Coach Matt Aho reported. Jacob Berning earned his 50th career win and Lukas Pauson earned his 50th career win and 25th career pin.
