JUNIOR MICHAEL VELDMAN scored 61 points in four games to help lead his Bulldog boys basketball team to two wins in four games.

Bulldogs Split Four Games, Improve To 6 5 In Grc

The Becker Bulldog boys basketball team (10-10) went 2-2 in four games this week to keep their season record at .500.

Three of the four games the ‘Dogs played included two wins against conference foes, so the Bulldogs find themselves at 6-5 and in fourth place in the conference.
 
Albany 66, Becker 61
 
Senior Josh Nohner and junior Michael Veldman both scored 17 points for Becker, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Albany on the road Thursday night.
 
The Huskies were led by Senior Dalton Finken who had 18 points and junior Nick Raeker, who had 17 in a Granite Ridge Conference victory.
 
Becker Scoring: Josh Nohner 17, Michael Veldman 17, Dawson Brown 9, Tyler Kruse 9, Erik Tungland 5, Blake Barthel 2 and Cole Anderson 2.
 
Albany Scoring: Dalton Finken 18, Nick Raeker 17, Ben Hartmann 10, Kyle Birr 8, Kenny Weber 7, Zac Tomsche 2, Riley Voit 2 and Jeremy Rodenwald 2.
 
Bulldogs 61, Thunder 44
 
The Bulldogs got double-digit scoring from their top two scorers and squashed the Thunder on the road Monday, 61-44.
 
The Thunder, who beat the Bulldogs 70-62 on Becker’s home court Dec. 6, fell to 6-3 in the Granite Ridge and 9-12 overall.
 
Veldman and Nohner sank 16 points each for Becker as the Bulldogs dominated most of the game from the get-go.
 
Zimmerman trailed 24-17 at halftime, pulled within 26-24 early in the second half, then fell back as Becker steadily expanded their lead.
 
Kristian Bright scored 21 points for the Thunder.
 
Sartell 67, Becker 57
 
Seniors Tom Bearson and Tyler Tillotson each scored 12 points to lead Sartell to a nonconference victory over Becker last Saturday in Sartell.
 
Michael Veldman led Becker with 16 points.
 
Senior Alex Haima added 11 points for Sartell (9-8 overall).

Becker 69, LF 57
 
Veldman scored 12 points for the Bulldogs who downed Little Falls in a Granite Ridge Conference game last Friday night at home.
 
Mark Hanowski tallied 17 to lead the Flyers.
 
The Bulldogs played Friday night in Rogers and Saturday afternoon in Milaca (full report on both games in next week’s Citizen), then are off until Valentines’ Day when they’ll head to St Cloud to take on Cathedral, followed by a Saturday game at Hutchinson.
