Bulldogs Rout Nls, 54 6

Becker entered the 2015 season with a few question marks on defense, at QB, at WR and at RB but so far after two games — the only questions being asked is how far can this team go?

Before the season, one could argue that the ‘Dawgs were a popular preseason pick based on their success last year and their tradition, but after their second consecutive dominating performance, the Bulldogs are showing their bite can be downright scary.

Friday, they took on New London-Spicer on the road and thrashed the Wildcats behind the feet and hands of fullback Milan Kent.

In the first quarter, Becker jumped out to a quick lead when Stanger hit Gallus from 26 yards out to take the lead at the 7:50 mark.

Just two minutes later, the team marched the field again and this time Stanger handed the ball off to Kent, who rambled 24 yards to the end zone to give Becker a 14-pt. lead.

That score carried over to the second and less than one minute in, the Bulldogs increased their lead to 21-0 when Stanger found Alex Meidt behind the defender from seven yards out.

Becker kicked the ball to NLS’s 20 and the defense stepped up, tackling QB Josh Evans for a three-yard loss before Kent picked off Evans’ throw and returned it to the Wildcat’s six yard line. On the next play, Jake Fobbe took the handoff from Stanger and galloped across the goal line to give the visitors a four touchdown lead.

The “D” did their job again on the ensuing NLS drive and following a quick punt, Stanger marched the team down the field again and Kent put a dagger in the Wildcat hearts with a 34-yard burst to the end zone to make the score 35-0 with six minutes left in the first half.

Becker hammered home one more score before halftime when Kent scored from seven yards out and that opened the door for the Bulldog coaching staff to get a look at some of their second and third-stringers in the second half.

Gabe Dertinger scored in the third quarter on a 12-yard run and Cale MacMillan finished things off in the fourth with a two-yard score. New London-Spicer finally removed the “zero” from their side of the scoreboard when Josh Soine scored on a run from 39-yards out to spoil the Bulldog’s shutout.

Becker finished with 23 first downs compared to just eight for the Wildcats. The Bulldogs amassed 302 yards in rushing and 71 yards passing while NLS had 87 yards on the ground and -14 through the air.

The Becker defense had 10 sacks for 49 yards lost and recovered one fumble and had one interception.

Kent’s stellar game had him rushing for 103 yards and scoring three times. Stanger was 4-for-11 for 62 yards and three TDs through the air.

The defense held the Wildcats in tow, as QB Evans had just 35 yards gained by his arm on 12 attempts. He also threw an interception and was sacked five times.

The Bulldogs’ next opponent is a home game against Little Falls Friday at 7 p.m.
