Bulldogs romp Magic, 31-7 on Tackle Cancer night

The Bulldogs improved to 6-0 with a dominant win over Monticello last Friday night on Tackle Cancer night.

Nick Berglund was the offensive star of the game as he reeled in three TD scores to help the Bulldogs rout the Magic, 31-7.

Both teams ran nearly the same amount of plays (Becker 54, Monticello 57) and had just about the same amount of rushing yards (Becker 136, Monticello 138), but Becker soared through the air with 134 passing yards compared to Monticello’s 53.

Hokan Bengtson’s defense continues to shine as they gave up only seven points Friday and now have given up just 40 points in the six games (that averages to about 6.6 points a game). They forced four turnovers (three fumbles and one interception).

The offense has scored 206 points and are averaging 34 points a game.

Against Monticello, QB Ryan Bengtson got things rolling in the first quarter when he found Berglund open from 39 yards out to start the scoring. Bengtson would finish the game 11-of-18 for 134 yards and three TDs.

Still in the first quarter, Bengtson again found Berglund from 16 yards out to pad the lead at 14-0 heading into the final 12 minutes of the first half.

The Bulldogs would score twice in the second quarter, once when Carter Callahan barreled into the end zone from one-yard out to help his team go up 21-0. Then, Ryan’s brother, Zach capped the first half scoring when he nailed a 27-yard field goal to make it 24-0.

In the third, Bengtson and Berglund hooked up for the third time, this time from five yards out to finish Becker’s scoring at 31. Monticello would add a late TD to spoil the shutout when Carson Kolles rambled in from 24 yards out to make it 31-7.

Callahan finished the ground game with 74 yards on 14 carries and the one score. Kabir Bhakta had 33 yards on four carries and Mason Rach gained 21 yards on nine carries.

Berglund had the three TD scores and caught four passes total for 65 yards. Alex Weiss had five catches for 51 yards.

On defense, Joe Goth was flying all over the field as he had nine tackles and one assist and one tackle for a loss. Ethan Anderson had six tackles and one assist and also had the interception while Dylan Weber had four tackles and three assists.

Adam Jurek, Ethan Orgon and Dailen Adu-gyamfi had the three fumble recoveries.

Becker wore bright pink uniforms during warmups and donned pink socks and sleeves for the game in honor of people they know who have or are going through the struggles of cancer. The stands were packed with a sea of pink as well.
