Bulldogs Polish Off Hutchinson, 41 14

The Bulldog football team picked up right where they left off last November, wiping out a high-quality team on their march towards another state title.

In their first regular season game of the season Saturday, the host Bulldogs took on the Hutchinson Tigers, who was a semi-finalist last year and a two-time defending champ. The Tigers are in a rebuilding year while the Bulldogs hope to return to TCF Bank stadium and become two-time defending champs themselves.

First Quarter
Becker scored twice to none for Hutchinson as QB Andrew Stanger rambled in from the one yard line to put the Bulldogs up 7-0. Stanger’s score came on th heels of Gabe Dertinger’s 28 yards on the ground in the drive.

The Bulldogs scored again with just under two minutes left in the quarter when Stanger hit Alex Meidt for a 27-yard score.

Second Quarter
Quarter two was similar to the first, as Becker scored twice to the Tigers’ zero. At the 10-minute mark, Dertinger scored again, this time on a 31-yard scramble to the end zone to put the ‘Dawgs up 21-0.

With 4:40 left in the first half, FB Milan Kent plowed into the end zone for a seven yard TD — the XP was blocked and Becker went into the locker room up 27-0.

Third Quarter
Cody Gruenhagen scored his first varsity TD when he barreled through defenders enroute to an 11-yard TD. This time the XP was good and Becker led 34-0.

Hutchinson finally put a drive together against Becker’s tough “D” and scored at the 8:54 mark of the quarter to make it 34-7. Becker answered less than three minutes later when Kent scored again from the 15 on an end around.

On the ensuing kickoff, a short kick combined with a 15-yard penalty put the Tigers in business at Becker’s 27 and three plays later they scored again to make the final tally, 41-14.

Fourth Quarter
The electrical power at the stadium went out at halftime and the game ran the rest of the way with the officials keeping time on the field. The quarter expired quickly with ominous weather approaching and the Bulldogs fans celebrated the rather easy win over Hutchinson by 27 points.
