Bulldogs Improve To 4 0 With Three Big Wins

The Becker girls softball team battled the elements this past week, but came away with three wins to improve to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Granite Ridge Conference.

Becker 9, Albany 6

Becker 11, Albany 1

In a doubleheader Tuesday in Albany, the Bulldogs completed a two-game sweep of the Huskies behind the hitting of Kadee Vesledahl and the pitching of Maddy Mohrman and Brianna Corey.

In game one, Becker got on the board right away in the top of the first when Payton Williams doubled and scored on an Erika Schwartz single.

The lead grew to 4-0 when Allison Cieslak hit a three-run home run in the top of the second inning.   The Bulldogs tacked on five more runs in the fourth, capitalizing on Husky errors and doubles from Cassie Althoff and Erika Schwartz.   Albany slowly crept back into the game with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to make the score 9-5.

The Huskies mounted another threat in the bottom of the seventh by scoring a run and loading the bases with one out, but two big strikeouts by relief pitcher Corey ended the game.

Mohrman picked up the win in her first varsity start.

Williams led all hitters with a 3-for-5 day at the plate and scoring two runs. Samantha Lorette was 3-for-4 and Vesledahl 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In game two, the match remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when Becker batted around and scored seven runs.  Cieslak hit two doubles in the inning and Althoff added her first home run of the season with a two-run blast. Vesledahl also had a two-run single in the inning.
The Huskies got a run in the fourth, but Becker answered with three of their own to push the score to 10-1.  Vesledahl had another two-run single in the inning.   With one run needed in the bottom of the fifth to end the game due to the run rule, Hailey Fitzpatrick delivered a towering home run for her first varsity round tripper to end the game at 11-1.
Corey picked up the win to move to 2-0 on the season.  She allowed four hits and didn't walk a batter while striking out five.
Cieslak went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, Sam Lorette went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Vesledahl was 2-for-3, scoring two runs and driving in four.
Bulldogs 3, Magic 2
Last Friday the Bulldogs traveled to Monticello and came away with a tight, one-run win.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth when Becker scored all three of their runs as  Lindsey Lorette reached on an error with two outs.  Alexa Hanowski followed with a walk and Cieslak singled to score Lorette.  Althoff knocked in the next two runs with a single.

The game stayed 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth when the Magic got back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, then scored two runs after a sacrifice bunt and a double brought the gane within 3-2. Freshman Corey stopped the threat and picked up the win by going all seven innings, allowing just four hits. She struck out three with zero walks.

Vesledahl was 2-for-4, Althoff 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Hanowski 1-for-2.
