Bulldogs improve to 3-0 with win over Tigers

The Becker Bulldog football team remained undefeated on the 2021 season with a late win over Chisago Lakes last Friday on the road.

After jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, Becker withheld a comeback by Chisago Lakes in the third quarter and capped their road victory with a TD late in the third, then held on.

Becker dented the scoreboard first when Alex Weiss caught an eight-yard pass from QB Ryan Bengtson and crossed the goal line. The XP was good and Becker was feeling good.

The mood got better a little later on in the first when Carter Callahan scored on a four-yard gallop and after the XP, the Bulldogs were up 14-0, which is where the score was after the first half was completed.

In the third, Chisago Lakes closed the gap when Nicholas Wasko scored from 14 yards out to make it 14-7. On their next possession, Chisago Lakes tied the ball game at 14 when Wasko scored again, this time from eight yards out.

Before the end of the third quarter, however, the Bulldogs recaptured the lead when Bengtson found Landen Goebel from 43 yards out for a score to make it 21-14. The defense took it from there as they shut out the Tigers in the fourth to preserve the win.

Becker gained 213 yards compared to Chisago Lake’s 219. Becker ran 42 plays as opposed to 52 for the Tigers. The Bulldogs had three turnovers to Chisago Lakes’ 2.

Bengston was six-of-eight through the air for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Callahan gained 57 yards on 14 carries including the one TD. Goebel had three catches for 65 yards including the 43 yard TD catch.

On defense, Dylan Weber led the squad with four tackles and two assists. Dailen Adu-Gyamfi alos had four tackles on the night. Goebel had one interception and one fumble recovery.
