Dawson Brown reached a milestone that very few high school tennis players in Minnesota have reached. With his victory over Southwest’s Pierre Cazaban last Friday night, he notched his 100th career win.
As a seventh grader, Brown had 22 wins. In the eighth grade, he had 21 wins. In ninth, 24. In 10th grade, 20 and in 11th grade so far he has 13.
“It is really rare for an athlete to be ready to compete at the varsity level in seventh grade,” said Head Coach Hokan Bengtson. “But for Dawson to do as well as he has and continue to improve his game each year as he has moved up our team depth chart has been impressive.”
Bengtson describes Brown as an awesome competitor, being the youngest in a family of four children has made him become tough both physically and mentally.
“Mpls Southwest is an excellent young team. They made us battle for every point and we won some difficult matches to defeat them 5-2,” said the head coach.“I was impressed with the focus that our team had, we played at three different sites and the guys still encouraged one another.”
