The Becker boys baseball team went 1-2 this past week and face a grueling schedule next week in a slew of make up games.

Cathedral 5, Becker 1 The Bulldogs traveled to St Johns University last Saturday to play the #3-rated team in the state and lost by four. Cathedral scored first in the second inning, then scored another two runs in the third to jump out to an early lead.

Becker scored its lone run in the fourth on a hit by Robbie Benson and he scored on a Beau Pauly double.

Leading hitter for Becker was Cody Gruenhagen, who went  3-for-4.

Casey Vesledahl went the first four innings on the mound with Ryan Swanson the last two.

Hornets 4, Bulldogs 3 Becker played at Big Lake Monday and lost in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Hornets scored two runs on two hits and three walks in the inning.

Becker scored all it’s runs in fourth inning when Zach Zimmer reached on a error, Gruenhagen singled and a double steal moved the runners to second an third. Brandon Croatt lined a double that scored both runs and Benson got a base hit to score Croatt.

Leading hitters were Benson, who was 3-for-3 and Croatt, who had a double while driving in two runs.

Becker 6,  Zimmerman 5 Becker traveled to Zimmerman  Tuesday and came home with a one-run win.

Andrew Stanger went the distance on the mound to pick up the win, giving up three earned runs on seven hits and recording six strikeouts.

Zimmerman jumped out on the Bulldogs in the first inning, scoring three runs. The Bulldogs scored one run in the top of the second on a hit by Clayton Gallus, who eventually scored on a hit by Tyler Madsen.

Becker scored three more runs in the fourth when Stanger led off the inning by getting hit by the pitch, followed by a walk to Zimmer. Both runners scored on a double to the gap in left center by Gruenhagen. Benson followed with his own double to score Gruenhagen.   Zimmerman plated another run in the fifth, but that’s as close as they got. However, in the bottom of the seventh, Zimmerman led off with a base hit and moved the tying run to second on a sacrifice bunt. Stanger struck out the next batter  and with two outs, Zimmerman's Mitchell Mossman hit a single to right field where Gallus charged and fielded the ball to throw a perfect strike to Gruenhagen,  who tagged out the runner to give Becker the win.
