Bulldogs Go 1 1 In Two Games This Week

The Becker boys basketball team went 1-1 this week, beating Rogers Monday at home, then losing to Princeton Tuesday on the road.

Becker 66, Rogers 65

The Bulldogs rallied from a three point deficit in the first half to pull out a one-point win against the Royals at home Monday night.

The Bulldogs were led by Sam Ricker and Brandon Gustafson, who each had 14 points. Ricker also added one steal, one assist and two three-pointers.
Gustafson had three assists, three rebounds and was perfect from the field (7-for-7).

The Royals were led by Thomas Glad, who drained 18 points in the loss. Glad also had one block, one steal and five rebounds.

“Rogers shot well from the outside to keep the game close,” said Becker Head Coach Josh Ihrke. “We need to find a way to execute at the free-throw line to close out games. What a fun atmosphere and a good team win early in the season.”

Becker finished with  six fastbreak points, eight second-chance points, eight points off turnovers and four team rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 59% in the first half and 70% in the second.

Rogers had four fastbreak points, seven second-chance points, eight points off turnovers and four team rebounds. Rogers shot 52% in the first half and 48% in the second.

“We played well on both ends of the floor,” said Ihrke. “We handled their pressure and executed when we got into the half court. Again our defense kept us in the game.”

Becker scoring: Ricker 14, Gustafson 14, Gabe Lindbom 1, Cade Callahan 12, Nick Mittelstaedt 8, Carter Hietala 3 and Sam Koubsky 2.

Princeton 95, Becker 63

The Tigers of Princeton came out flying and destroyed the Bulldogs Tuesday at home by 32.

Princeton was led by Adam Williams and Jon Stimmler, who each had 17 points. The Tigers got scoring from 11 players, four ended up in double figures.
The Bulldogs got 12 from Hietala and 11 from Mittelsteadt and had 10 players reach the score sheet.

The game opened with the Tigers flying around the court, building a huge lead by halftime at 49-28. Becker played a little better in the second half, scoring seven more points and limiting the Tigers to four fewer points — but the shortage was too much to overcome.
