The Becker boys basketball team lost in a second-half comeback to Annandale Thursday at home, 55-52.
The Bulldogs fell behind quickly to the Cardinals at 6-0, but rallied back to take a significant lead midway through the first half. Annandale battled back and closed to within a few points before Becker closed out the first half with a 28-22 lead.
Nick Mittelstaedt set the tone for Becker as he directed the offense and was the top scorer for the home team (23 points).
Cade Callahan had his hands full as he did a valiant job defending Annandale’s Logan Purcell — a giant presence in the middle who had more bulk than the lean Callahan. Cade held his own, netting five points and keeping Purcell at just 12 points on the night.
The second half saw the Cardinals put their system in place and they chipped away at Becker’s lead until they surpassed them early on in the second. Carson Gagnon caught fire and finished with 20 points as the Cardinals outscored the Bulldogs 33-24 in the final frame.
The Bulldogs fell to 2-3 while Annandale improved to 4-0.
