Bulldogs dominate Rocori, 28-0

The Becker Bulldog football team — behind 300 yards gained on the ground — dominated and destroyed the #5-ranked Rocori Spartans last Friday at home by a score of 28-0.

Becker, ranked #6 in the pre-season polls, got three TDs  from their fullbacks and one TD through the air in the team’s home opener for 2021. Carter Callahan was named the game’s #1 star as he carried the ball 16 times for 100 yards and two TDs.

There was only one score in the opening 12 minutes of the game and that honor went to Logan Eisele, who reeled in a 35-yard pass from QB Ryan Bengtson and outran defenders for the first score.

In the second quarter on a first and 10 at Rocori’s 21 yard line, Bengtson play-actioned to the RB and slipped a quiet pass over the left end into the arms of Alex Weiss. Weiss nabbed the ball on the run and scampered 15 yards to the six to set Becker up with a first and goal.

Two plays later, Callahan bowled into the end zone to put the home team up 14-0 early in the second.

As the second half commenced, Becker was faced with a second and nine at their own 13 when Bengtson dropped back to pass. He couldn’t find an open receiver and tucked the ball down and weaved his way through the white jerseys of Rocori. After breaking numerous tackles, Bengtson was finally corralled after racing 23 yards to the 36. It was a big moment that sent Rocori reeling and Becker marching forward.

Moments later, on a third and 12 from Becker’s 34, Bengtson rolled out to his right and found Weiss for 13 yards to secure the first down. Bengtson would again use his legs to knife through the Spartan’s defense when he gained 12 yards on a first and 10 play from Rocori’s 40. In the mix was a 19-yard scamper by fullback Adam Jurek, who spelled Callahan and had a very productive day.

In the fourth quarter, another powerhouse FB in Mason Rach took the handoff from Bengtson and made swiss cheese of the Spartans while tallying his own 19 yard run to Rocori’s four. Callahan topped the drive off with a blast around left tackle to put the Bulldogs up 21-0.

Late in the fourth, Jurek once again spelled Callahan and scored from 10 yards out on a third and three to cap the scoring.

The stars on offense were Bengtson, who had 92 yards through the air and one score while not throwing an interception. Callahan gained 100 yards on 16 carries and scored twice and Eisele had the one catch for 35 yards and a score.

On defense, Ethan Organ had five tackles, including one for a loss. Joseph Goth had 4.5 tackles including one for a loss and Harrison Kent had two tackles, one for a loss.

Becker finished with 392 total yards while Rocori had 92. Bengtson finished with 92 yards through the air while Rocori’s QB had just 75. Becker’s ground force notched 300 yards on the day while Rocori could only muster 17.
