Bulldogs Defeat Hornets In A Close Meet

The Becker Bulldogs wrestling team traveled to Big Lake Thursday night, competing in a tough match that left the Bulldogs with a hard fought win, 34-29.

The meet began with Drew May (106) losing to Nolan Reiter in a tech fall, 18-2. Next, Ethan Duncombe (113) was taken in a fall at 1:07 to Christian Noble. Ryan Boecker (120) fought hard bought but also lost his match to Rocco Visci in a tech fall 15-0. 

The Bulldogs had their first win of the meet when Ethan Anderson (126) defeated Cade Sixberry in a Maj. Dec. 15-6. Becker’s next two wrestlers also won their matches; Jake Nelson (132) overcame Luke Schumacher in a decision, 5-3, and Mason Doucette (138) won by forfeit. 

Big Lake fought back, with Dillon Browen defeating Lukas Paulson (145) in a decision 13-6, and Tyler Dehmer overcoming Tyson Ricker (152) in a Maj. Dec. 10-2.

With the score 13-23, the Bulldogs came back hard, winning their next five matches. Adam Jurek (160) defeated Alex Hanrahan in a decision 4-0, and Kylen Rish (170) also won in a decision, 15-9, against Brett Bordwell.

Caden Dewall (182) won in a forfeit, Reid Kraus (195) overcame his opponent, Rieley Mullen, in a decision 7-3, and Brayden Weber (220) defeated Kane Lapointe in Becker’s only fall of the meet at 1:07.

The last match of the event was won by Big Lake’s Jeremy Phyle (285) through forfeit.

The Bulldogs will be competing at South St. Paul High School Saturday, and Little Falls on Tuesday.
