Bulldogs cruise to section final, beating Tigers 45-6

The Becker Bulldogs football squad easily dispatched of the Princeton Tigers in the Section 8AAAA Semifinal last Saturday at home by a score of 45-6.

Becker used a blocked punt on Princeton’s first possession to get the party rolling. A few plays later, QB Zach Bengtson found Mitchell Soltau from 16 yards out to light up the scoreboard early.

The Bulldogs dominated the second quarter when they tallied three more TDs to stretch their lead. Bengtson pooched a 31-yard FG to put the home team up 10-0, then he found Isaac Daluge from 33 yards out to put them up 17-0.

Nearing the halftime buzzer, Daluge found paydirt again, this time on a 35-yard run for the score to put the Bulldogs up 24-0.

In the third, the Tigers felt a reprieve as they mounted a long drive and scored on a three-yard run from their QB to make the score 24-6. They attempted a two-point conversion, but were stymied by the Becker defense and that was the last time they neared the end zone — except from their backs.

Soltau got TD #2 on a 23-yard pass play to put Becker up by 25 to close out the third.

Isaiah Gardner capped a long drive by the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter when he busted through from two yards out to put the homers up 38-6. Grayson Kipka sealed the deal later when he reeled in a 62-yard pass from Bengtson to finish the score at 45-6.

Bengtson was dynamite as he completed 12 of his 21 passes for 183 yards and four TDs. Gardner finished with 41 yards on 11 carries and one TD while Owen Angell had six carries for 34 yards for the running game.

For the receivers, Kyan Blomquist had five catches for 35 yards while Soltau had two catches (both TDs) for 39 yards and Kipka had the one catch for 62 yards and a score.

On defense, Landen Kujawa finished with eight tackles and two assists including two tackles for loss. Daluge had six tackles and one assist and Josh Groskreutz had five tackles, one assist, one sack and one tackle for loss.

Becker finished with 307 yards total compared to just 237 for Princeton. The Tigers had two turnovers to Becker’s one and Becker tallied 15 first downs to Princeton’s 11.
