Led by head coach Dan Olson, the Becker Bulldogs Boys Golf team has been preparing for a strong upcoming season.
The team officially started practice for the season on March 18, working indoors until warmer weather allowed them to head outside to work on their game at the golf course.
As an experienced golf coach and supported by assistant coach Steve Whittaker, Olson knows what the team needs to be concentrating on in order to put forth its best. This is his 21st season being involved with the Becker golf program.
“Right now, we’re just trying to get back into the swing of things,” said Olson. “The course just opened up fully last week, so we’re all trying to knock the rust off.”
Weather permitting, the team, which consists of 12 athletes, is practicing at the course after school every day.
Senior captain Austin Seavert and Zach Stanz will be competing for All-Conference honors this season; both are this year’s team leaders.
The first meet for the Bulldogs boys golf team was Monday at Pebble Creek Golf Club against a number of other schools.
“I hope that we can be competitive in our final season in the GRC (Great River Conference),” said Olson. “Cathedral will be the front runner as they have won conference every year. Albany has a good team as well.”
This Thursday’s meet at Stone’s Throw Golf Course was postponed due to the weather. The team is next scheduled to compete at Stone Creek Golf Course on Monday.
