In Thursday’s first round of the Granite City Classic basketball tournament at St. Cloud Apollo, the Lady Bulldogs downed the Spring Lake Park Panthers by 10.
Becker’s backcourt of Adeline Kent and Julia Bengtson was a little too much for Spring Lake to handle, getting 22 points each from the starting guards.
Megan Gamble played excellent as well on the interior, scoring 14 points to go with five rebounds.
“Megan played excellent defense on All-Conference player Madi Ngene, holding her to 19 points and battling with her all game,” said Head Coach Dan Baird.
“We answered every run Spring Lake Park would make by hitting key shots or making an excellent defensive play at just the right time.”
Alayna Lindquist sparked the Bulldogs and led them in “hustle points” with 22, despite battling a cold.
The win moves Becker to 4-1 while Spring Lake Park fell to 6-3.
“This was a huge win against a quality AAAA opponent,” said Baird. “Our girls played with effort and energy, and just battled against a good team!”
Becker scoring: Kent 22, Bengtson 22, Gamble 14, Lindquist 11, Courtney Nuest 9, Maren Westin 3 and Ayla Brown 2.
Spring Lake Park scoring: Madi Ngene 19, Macy Smith 17, Julia Levahn 15, Averi Dunbar 10, Joelle Talso 5, Taryn Richard 3, Taylor Falvey 2 and Kylie Diaz 2.
