Bulldogs Beat Milaca, Lose To Little Falls And Monticello

The Becker boys baseball team fell to 5-13 with a 1-3 week.

Tuesday, the Bulldogs hosted a doubleheader with Little Falls and came away with two losses, both  shutouts.
 
In the first game, the Bulldogs played good defense for half the game, but the sky fell in when Little Falls scored seven runs in the fourth inning to build an insurmountable lead. 
 
The Bulldog bats remained silent. 
 
Little Falls score three more runs in the fifth to make the score double digits in their favor.

Game two of the doubleheader against Little Falls was a pitchers duel between Little Falls pitcher Tom Miller and Becker's Casey Vesledahl.  
 
The only run of the game came in the third inning on a lead off double by Adam Hallberg, who moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field. Vesledahl pitched a complete game, giving up the lone run on just four hits.   The Bulldogs managed just six hits with three by Andrew Stanger who went 3-for-4.
 
Magic 10, Bulldogs 0
 
As part of another doubleheader, Becker jumped on the bus and headed to Monticello to take on the Magic in an evening game. The bats went silent as Monti tripped the Bulldogs, 10-0.
 
Monticello pitcher Manning allowed just four hits with two of those hits by Clayton Gallus.
 
Becker 6, Milaca 5
 
Last Friday, Becker hosted Milaca at 4 p.m. and came away with a close, one-run win.
 
Vesledahl went the distance on the mound, giving up five runs on seven hits, striking out six with three errors behind him.
 
Milaca scored one run in the second, two runs in the third and one run in the fifth before the Bulldogs scored their first runs in the fifth. 
 
Becker scored four of their runs in the fifth when Robbie Benson led off with a double and scored on a hit by Matt Conzemius, Tyler Thorson followed with a walk, Zach Zimmer reached base on a Milaca error which scored Conzemius and with two outs. Brandon Croatt delivered a big hit  to score Thorson and Zimmer tying the score at 4-4. Milaca scored one run in the sixth, but the Bulldogs countered with a lone run of their own  when Benson hit a double to left center field and scored the tying run on another hit by Conzemius. Vesledahl held Milaca scoreless in the seventh and the Bulldogs scored the winning run on a lead-off single by Zimmer, a single by Croatt followed by a walk to Vesledahl. A sacrifice fly by Benson scored the winning run.
 
Becker played last Thursday in their final regular season game of the year against STMA, but no information on the game was made available to the Citizen by press time.
 
Section play begins Monday and the time and place is yet to be determined.
