Katie Mavencamp returns for her second season in charge of the Becker Bulldog volleyball program, and “Coach Bo” as her girls call her will have a wealth of experience on the court for a team that finished in the top half of the M8 Conference a year ago.
“We have eight returning letter winners on the team,” said Coach Bo. “One of our goals is to keep building our team chemistry by playing together on the court as one unit.”
Junior Libero Kenna Hennessey will lead the pack of talented players, as she last year broke the Becker school record for single season digs with 456. Senior Brynn Koste also looks to have a solid season, as the outside hitter returns as the top striker for the Bulldogs. Coach Bo also will count on a pair of middle players to shut down the opposition.
“Senior Middle Blocker Courtney Gass and Sophomore Middle Blocker Payton Treptau return as our middles denying opponent hitters with their blocking,” said Coach Bo.
Hennessey and Gass will serve as Captains for the Bulldogs, who could challenge for a top spot in a very good Section 8AAA.
As Coach Bo continues to put her stamp on the team, she will continue to build a program that can contend for years to come.
“My expectations for the season include seeing the girls build their self confidence and play at the level they are capable of,” Said Coach Bo. “I expect us to shock a lot of teams by the growth they accomplished over the winter and summer seasons. My coaching philosophy is rooted in growing, developing, and supporting each girl as an athlete AND as a young woman.”
Volleyball fans can circle September 6 on their calendars, as the Bulldogs will again host their annual tournament, with teams from Cloquet, Eden Valley-Watkins, Holy Family Catholic, Howard Lake-Waverley,Winsted, PACT Charter, St. Cloud Tech and St. Louis Park coming to town.
