Bulldog tennis picks up pair of wins

The Becker girls tennis team had a good week, picking up a pair of M8 Conference wins before falling to the Buffalo Bison.

Last Tuesday, Becker edged the Chisago Lakes Wildcats, 4-3. Dani Nuest was the lone singles winner for Becker, defeating her opponent in the #2 spot with a nice comeback, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

In the doubles matches, it was a different story as the Bulldogs picked up a clean sweep.

Ali Groskreutz and Madison Bass were dominant in the #1 spot, winning 6-2, 6-4, while the #2 team of Kennedy Drehmel and Hannah Bartlett were also on point, winning 6-1 in both sets.

In the #3 spot, Payton Enerson and Hannah Hyttsten ground out a 7-5, 6-2 win to give Becker the M8 win.

On Thursday of last week, it was all Bulldogs as the blanked North Branch, 7-0. The Vikings couldn’t handle the Bulldogs all afternoon with Becker picking up another M8 victory.

Ayla Brown won the #1 singles match 6-0, 6-2, followed by Nuest and her 6-1, 6-0 victory. Lauren Croal then defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-1 at #3, followed by Lily Anderson’s 6-1, 6-2 win in the last singles match.

The same three doubles teams again picked up the wins for the Bulldogs with match scores being 6-2, 6-4 in the #1 spot, 6-3, 6-2 in the #2 spot and 6-1, 6-2 in the #3 spot.

Monday evening, the Bulldogs ran into a solid Buffalo team and came away with a 5-2 loss.

Brown and Nuest were the victorious Bulldogs, as they won their matches, 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-1, respectively.
