The Becker boys tennis team closed out the Mississippi 8 season last Thursday with a 4-3 win over Chisago Lakes, and this week they will start the section tournament.

Troy Nuest and Adler Herdina paced the Dogs, taking their singles matches by 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-2 scores.

“We won #1 and #2 singles right away, then we won #3 doubles,” Coach Hokan Bengtson said.  “Needing one more point our two seniors (Garett Lane and Jon Drury) at #2 doubles had a great match winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. Garett and Jon really showed some grit and mental toughness!”

Bengtson sang the praises of his two veterans, noting their focus and determination.

“Any time you get into that close of a match you get exposed if you aren’t mentally tough,” Bengtson said. “These two were tremendous!”

Nathan Weiss and Brock Herdina were the winners of the #3 doubles match for the Bulldogs.

With the win, Becker finished the regular season 19-3.
