The Becker Bulldog swimming and diving team is showing the depth that Coach Tina Tamm talked about in the preseason and the results continue to be impressive. Last Thursday, the Bulldogs picked up a win over their Rivals, the Big Lake Hornets, before knowing down Ogilvie-Mora in a Tuesday night matchup this week.
In the win over the Hornets, Becker picked up wins in 11 of the 12 events.
“It was a good night for us against our rivals,” Tamm said. “We took first place in all of the swimming events to get us the win.”
Picking up the victories for the Bulldogs were: Laila Cook, Grace Wynia, Delaney Varney and Avary Maunu (200 Med Relay); Cook (200 free and 100 Breaststroke); Wynia (200 IM and 100 Free); Tia Schaap (50 free); Varney (100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke); Meaghan Swanson (500 free); Cook, Sarah Woelfel, Swanson, Maunu (200 Free relay); and the 400 free relay team of Wynia, Maunu, Varney and Swanson.
Tuesday night, the Bulldogs hit the road for a matchup with Ogilvie/Mora and again they came out on top.
“We finally got to travel to another pool and going to Ogilvie’s pool adds a little different twist to the girls’ season as they have a meter pool,” Tamm said. “When our girls swim there they feel like their times are slower but with the time conversion - they do realize that they swam better than they thought they did.”
Becker again won several events, but their overall depth is what propelled them to the victory.
“Our divers came back after not winning at the Big Lake meet and swept the diving event,” Tamm said.
Events wins for the Bulldogs included: 200 medley relay (Laila Cook, Grace Wynia, Delaney Varney, Avary Maunu); 200 IM (Grace Wynia); Diving (Sarah Woelfel); 100 Butterfly (Delaney Varney); 100 Backstroke (Delaney Varney); 100 Breaststroke (Grace Wynia).
With the win, Tamm’s squad moved to a 4-1 record on the season and the team is starting to see the Section tournament ahead. It’s a challenge the coach believes her team is ready to handle.
“We are looking to continue to add wins and are starting to look ahead to the section meet,” Tamm said. “We are about one-third of the way through the season and continue to add girls to our Section roster.”
